Scent Smart started with a simple frustration: the fragrances we fall for are often wildly overpriced, and almost nobody explains what those scents actually do to us.
So we built two things. A Dupe Finder that matches expensive colognes to affordable bottles built on the same accords, ranked honestly by how close they really smell. And a short Scent Science guide that explains why smell is wired straight to emotion and memory, and what individual notes tend to do to your mood.
No markup worship. No mystery. Just the scent you love, understood and priced like it should be.

Best friends — and the two students who built Scent Smart.
Alex and Mack have been best friends since they were little, and now they're at the University of Florida together. Somewhere between late-night study sessions and saving up for bottles they couldn't really afford, they got hooked on fragrance, and hated that the scents they wanted cost a small fortune while almost nobody explained what those notes actually did to you.
They started Scent Smart with one goal: to make great scent something anyone can afford and actually understand. Their senior capstone project gave them the time, the structure, and the push to finally build it, turning a shared obsession into the Dupe Finder and Scent Science guide you're using now.
The scent trail a fragrance leaves behind as the wearer moves through a room. Good sillage means a cologne announces its presence without announcing its price. It is the word behind the name.
